Texas author/historian, Karen R. Thompson, a seventh generation Texan, is a native Austinite. Her interest in the history of Round Rock began when she married eighth generation Texan David Thompson and moved to the Round Rock area.

Growing up in the Capital city, where her grandfather Charles P. Luck had been one of the early photographers (1890s - 1920s), it was natural to enjoy history. She has been researching and writing history since writing her biography A Texas Girl in the fifth grade at Casis Elementary School in Austin.
